Privatemode vs. Chinese AI providers

DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, and GLM run on infrastructure bound by Chinese law.
Privatemode runs the same models in the EU, encrypted end-to-end.

Model quality - identical models

Model quality

Same models. Different jurisdiction.

  • Privatemode: identical models
  • Chinese providers: identical models, too

Privatemode self-hosts the same open-weight DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, and GLM releases you'd use directly. Nothing changes about output quality, model quality isn't the argument here, jurisdiction is.

Data residency - EU

Data residency

Where your prompts and files physically sit.

  • Privatemode: EU
  • Chinese providers: China

Prompts and files processed through Privatemode stay inside confidential-computing environments hosted and operated in the EU. Using DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, or GLM directly means your data is processed on infrastructure located in, and operated under, China.

Data privacy - hardware-enforced

Data privacy

Who can technically read your data.

  • Privatemode: hardware-enforced
  • Chinese providers: contractual only

Privatemode encrypts prompts and files end-to-end and processes them only inside an isolated environment. Neither Privatemode, the cloud, nor the model's original lab can see the plaintext. Using the provider's own hosted API means your data is processed in plaintext on their infrastructure, protected only by policy.
