ID
ID GmbH & Co. KGaA is a German software vendor for medical documentation, coding, and medical controlling. Over 1,400 hospitals across the DACH region use the software of this company, which has been established for more than 40 years.
“As a software vendor in the healthcare sector, protecting sensitive data is our top priority. Standard AI solutions often fell short for our internal processes due to strict GDPR requirements. With Privatemode AI, we have had a solution in company-wide use since July 1, 2026, that gives us a real technical confidentiality guarantee thanks to Confidential Computing. Today we use AI inference primarily to optimize our internal workflows and in knowledge management. The fact that we can process GDPR-relevant data with absolute security is the decisive game changer for us.” - Tobias Hübner, Senior Software Engineer, ID
ID has been developing specialized software for clinical documentation and coding for decades. To take advantage of the efficiency of modern AI solutions, the roughly 50-person team looked for ways to optimize internal processes and knowledge management with AI support. However, because these processes frequently involve GDPR-relevant data, and because the domain expertise built over decades as well as the internal source code must remain protected, standard AI providers were not an option for data protection reasons. ID therefore needed a solution that combines maximum productivity in daily work with seamless, verifiable confidentiality of sensitive data.
ID evaluated Privatemode AI, an end-to-end encrypted inference API in which prompts, context (such as the codebase), and responses remain inaccessible to third parties, including the service provider Edgeless Systems and the infrastructure operator.
Unlike a data processing agreement (DPA), which is only a contractual commitment, this confidentiality is based on Confidential Computing, a hardware-rooted technical guarantee that users can verify themselves. A ten-person team at ID tested Privatemode AI extensively first. Since the beginning of July 2026, Privatemode AI has been in production use, primarily for internal process automation and coding assistants.
In production use, ID's roughly 50-person development team relies primarily on Kimi K2.6 via Privatemode AI. Other employees are also set to be supported by the Confidential AI service in the future, for example through the integration of an internal chatbot. This allows ID employees to benefit from the efficiency advantages of modern AI tools without having to worry about the security of sensitive data.
